Science 10

Friday, Nov. 27th

Today I gave you more time for your hand in assignments on balancing reactions and writing compounds.  I also assigned the following questions for homework:  pg. 229 #2, pg. 235 #2, pg. 241 #3.

Thursday, Nov. 19th

Today I gave you some worksheets that broke up our reaction types to consider only one type at a time.

Wednesday, Nov. 18th

After the quiz today, I gave you a handout on types of reactions.  I asked you to try to identify all of the reactions (Part I) and then to write the formulas for EVERY COMPOUND on the sheet.  (Part II)

Tuesday, Nov. 17th

Today we went over naming of compounds.  It is the last day we are spending on this and you will be having a quiz tomorrow on it.  After that I gave you a handout of  reaction notes.  After the quiz tomorrow we will continue with naming reaction types, and then start writing in the compounds.

Monday, Nov. 9th

Today we went over the questions from the Lab done last week.  I expect you to hand in the writeup if you haven’t done so already.  Also I gave you a worksheet on hydrates worksheet which was assigned after we did the notes and examples on that topic.

Monday, Nov. 2nd

Welcome to a new group of students.  Today was a series of topics that were review from the chemistry unit.  I did a few demos and even showed you a little video from tom Lehrer:

Tomorrow promises to be much more in depth!

Monday, Oct. 26th

Today we did notes and examples on multivalent compounds.

Thursday, Oct. 22nd

Today we went went over the first 7 questions from the atoms and ions worksheet and then you had to answer the rest.  Then I gave you a ions assignment that was to be handed in.  Finally, we started some notes on rules for naming compounds and writing compounds.

Tuesday, Oct. 20th

Today we learned how to do Bohr Diagrams for atoms.   I asked you to draw the Bohr Diagrams for the following 4 atoms: Sodium, Aluminum, Carbon, and Argon.  Then I asked you to do question #4 on page 187.

There will be a quiz tomorrow on filling in info like the table that was for homework yesterday.  (See the link for periodic table assignment)

Monday, Oct. 19th

Today we learned lots of stuff about the periodic table.  I even showed you Tom Lehrer singing it…

Then I gave you the following per table assignment.  It is to be finished for homework!

Friday, Oct. 16th

Today we continued an introduction to chemistry, and I assigned you to do questions from the text pg. 175 #1-8.  (We already went over #1 – 4).

Thursday, Oct. 15th

Today we continued the notes on chemical and physical changes from the chemistry unit.  (Chapter 5)  You copied out 3 questions from the board to do for homework.

Friday, Oct. 2nd

Today I went over the last of the review questions from the text, and even handed out an extra test review which will also be very useful when we review for the physics exam.

Thursday, Oct. 1st

In the past week you’re been practicing acceleration questions, I’ve given you 2 assignments on acceleration (acceleration graphing assignment and an acceleration problem assignment)

Thursday, Sept. 24th

We introduced the concept of acceleration today.  I discussed the bad physics in a number of movies, and referred to the hammer and feather drop that the astronauts of Apollo 17 did when they were on the moon.  Here’s a link to the video:

Wednesday, Sept. 23rd

Well, I was gone for a few days, and I had given you some questions from the book to accomplish as well as a speed assignment #1 which is to be handed in for marks.

Friday, Sept. 18th

Today we went over the questions from last day.  Then we did a graphing activity.

Thursday, Sept. 17th

Today you were assigned questions #2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, and 9 on page 358.

Wednesday, Sept. 16th

Today I introduced the speed equation, and we went over the examples from the anchor activity.

Tuesday, Sept. 15th

Today (after the fire drill) we did the “how fast can you throw a tennis ball?” activity.  It is to be handed in at the beginnig of tomorrow’s class.

Monday, Sept. 16th

Today we went over the assigned work, then I gave you a Significant Digits and Conversion Assignment that is due at the beginning of class tomorrow.  We also started an activity where you will investigate the speed that a ball can be thrown.  We will be carrying out your written procedures tomorrow.  If your procedures are not written out, you will not leave the class.

Friday, Sept. 11th

Today we went over the homework and did some notes and examples on unit conversions.  I gave you the following unit conversions worksheet and asked you to complete those for Monday.

Have a great weekend!

Thursday, Sept. 10th

Your homework for tonight is to complete questions 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8 on pg. 349.

Good Luck!

Wednesday, Sept. 9th

Today we did a measurement activity and discussed the need for accuracy when measuring.  We then began some notes on significant digits.  We will pick up from there tomorrow.

Tuesday, Sept. 8th

Well, today I gave out the science 10 introduction as well as my expectations in terms of MANNERS.  As we only had half a class today, that’s about as far as we got.  Tomorrow we’ll SPEED it up as we get into the motion unit.
